WING
COMMANDER: PROPHECY (Gold Edition)
Want to feel like a hero?
By DAVID
SCULLEY
Accountability can turn any serious gamer into a wimpering baby. It may be
tough in the arcade shoot-em-ups to blow away bad guys ad infinitum. But try
losing a buddy, wingman, co-fighter and see how you feel.
Wing Commander:
Prophecy makes you well and truly accountable for your actions.
Cleverly
interlaced video with the game sections of this program mean that when you
fail, you know damn well you have failed big time.
Come back
without completing your mission and everyone from the commander to the mechanic
who works on your craft tells you what they think of you.
Lose a
mate and you feel like a great big pile of elephant droppings.
Fail to
carry out your orders completely and you jeopardise the safety of the entire
mother ship.
But fly
straight and win and, man, are you in the good books. Kisses from the girls,
praise form the guys and promotions await those who complete their missions
successfully.
This game
is tops. It was all I could do to drag myself away from the screen and open
the packaging on the next game for review. But never fear, I have not wiped
it from my hard disk.
I shall
return.
