STARCRAFT
Homepage

The wait has been worth it

By JAMES ANTHONY

To begin with I'll lay my cards on the table. The Warcraft series is arguably the finest in the history of gaming. So, with that noted, I'll go on to say that Starcraft - the latest incarnation - is the best game yet done.

Forget all other real-time strategy titles - even Command and Conquer and Total Annihilation - Starcraft is light years ahead as it improves the series in every respect and throws in a ballsy touch of Aliens savagery as well.

It's easy to get the hang of and the leap from peasants and footmen to Space Construction Vehicles and Space Marines is not all that large. Resource management and technology updates are still the keys to victory - with a few little extras for good measure.

Visually, it's stunning, with well-worked prequels telling you how the scenario should unfold. The storyline takes Starcraft into truly new heights as it is multi-layered, exciting and terrific fun to be a part of.

There are three choices of lifeform. Earthlings, Zerg (acid-spitting yukkies) and the highly intelligent Protoss. Each has their own special units that can turn the tide of war against their enemies.

As a terran, you must watch out for the Rorke's Drift scenario where you have to survive a full 30 minutes under massive attack. It will blow your senses. (But save often)

Utterly fantastic!
